Need clarification on 9.0 FPP & trunking

Post by 123 »

Need clarification

I have a XTS 5000 with firmware 9.xx programmed with CPS 9.xx and has Q52 but not Q53
It also has smartzone

So my question is. I read where if you program it with CPS 12.xx you lose FPP and maybe lose some trunking features or programming ability.

So my question is, what options do I have if I want to upgrade the firmware or program with newer CPS?
Does the radio have to be reflashed and take FPP Q52 out completely?
I do need SmartZone trunking to stay. So keeping all trunking features and upgrading the firmware is my goal.
I do not need FPP to stay, but if I can keep it cool. If not no big deal.

Just looking for the best and cheapest route.

Thanks in advance.

My understanding of the situation is that when you install firmware above 9 and have FPP you can not program the radio for trunking. Like many of us I have no authorization or need for trunking so my two 5Ks with FPP do just fine with version 12. If I absolutely must monitor a trunked system I put in the digital non-control channels and just scan the system. I have two local trunked systems that run on VHF and UHF and this works okay; not perfect by any means but okay.
