Questions regarding HKN4321A cable

Greetings all. I have a few questions about the HKN4321A cable. I've searched Batboard and Google and haven't found any definitive answers.

I recently acquired several HKN4321A cables that were advertised as MaraTrac advanced control head cables. I have a MaraTrac set up in my car and it uses an HKN4321B cable.
I read a few reports of people having trouble getting the advanced control head to work with the A cable, then I read a thread on Batboard (http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9170) where it was said this cable would work.

1) Will this cable work with the MaraTrac advanced control head without modification?
2) If not, can it be modified to work with the MaraTrac? How?
3) What is the difference between the HKN4321A and B cables?
4) If this cable wasn't intended to be used with the MaraTrac, what radio was it intended to be used with?
