MPL use on an XTL2500 / 5000 mobile

Post by Jim202 »

Can someone clear up my confusion on the use of MPL (multiple PL) with an XTL2500 or
XTL5000?

When using a Spectra and you press the MPL button on the control head, it disables the
programmed TX PL and then uses what ever you select for the MPL. On the XTL radio, does
the programmed TX stay until pressing the MPL button or does the software selection disable
what you have set as a fixed TX PL and only use the MOL selection?

It seems as when you check the user selected MPL, it grays out the TX PL programmed tone.
Haven't been able to have the time yet to play and prove which way this is functioning.
Would like to know before I spend much time programming this feature into a radio, only to
learn it doesn't work the way I would like it to.

I wish the XTL5000 MPL would have worked like it did in the Spectra series. You hit the nail on the head, when you identified that the actual channel settings for PL/DPL greyed out when MPL was checked. That is the case.
When the MPL box is checked, the radio will use the default PL/DPL (preset defined in the MPL section) for the MPL
until such time as you change it via the MPL function. Push and hold the MPL button, scroll through the list, then push
MPL again to lock it in.
I really liked the Spectra way, as you could preload (on a channel by channel basis) the best PL for their area, and if they wanted to change from this , they could. When MPL was turned off, it reverted back to the preset values.
I can't understandy why Big M changed from this. It was "perfect" in Spectra, and now isn't so good in XTS/XTL/APX.

I thought that was going to be the case. The geeks at the big M have struck zero again on their great crap software.

When you pay $2K plus for a radio, I expect the features to work. If they made an older radio function to be user friendly with MPL, then the new radio should at least do the same thing. If not, then mother M had better rethink what they are paying their software geeks.
