SP50 Radio Issues

Post by trapsh00ter »

I have an SP50 10 channel that is programmed and recently had a new battery installed. The radio seems to be locked out or possibly certain channels are locked out. One channel is WX receive all others are EMS channels. It is a VHF unit and when turned on it beeps to signal power and then immediately makes a thumping noise 3 times. If I press the monitor button sometimes it picks up the WX other times it goes into a loud continuous beep or just quits or at times the lights alternate between the MON and OPT and will not transmit at all. I need to know if one it's possibly bricked or locked out, two if it needs reprogrammed, or three if the radio is just dead. I doubt it's bricked or dead because it will receive WX broadcasts, it will not transmit or receive on any other channels however.

I know you said you recently put in a new battery but the beeping and then later the squeal both sound like battery issues. Get the battery from a reliable source ?

I'd agree with the post above, all my SP50's do the same thing with a dying battery... Sounds like your issue.

My assistant chief got the battery for it, not sure where but supposedly it is new, will check it and then go from there

Definitely a battery issue. Mine does the same thing when my battery's ready to die. What's the date code on the new battery ?

You didn't happen to put your battery in backwards?
