Analog Quantar to P25, what is required

Post by wb4wxd »

I have a customer with a Quantar analog repeater who upgraded to an EF Johnson P25 system. He wants to upgrade the quantar to P25.
How is this done and what would be needed?

Thanks much for the help

It depends on the radio's firmware versions.

It could be as easy as changing the codeplug - or the radio could need a firmware upgrade.

Search the message archive - this has been answered several times.

At least version 20 firmware in the controller. If you or your customer are the original purchasers you can probably get it flashed, but it's going to be APB and will likely require a dealer intermediary who's familiar with Quantars if you don't have direct access to a Motorola sales rep. Or you can keep an eye out for a used controller board with version 20 firmware already loaded; I know 123 had some for sale here recently. Then all you need to do is blow your codeplug in and turn IMBE on. The RSS user's guide has step-by-step instructions.

The latest Conv /6809 Quantars will have CLN6961 SCB and a CLN6955 4 W wireline board. These if shipped after early 1998 should be flash capable. You will need a ASTRO V24 board as well. An ASTRO Modem board will work, but its not been available for a while. This V24 Board plugs on top of the CLN6955 Audio Board and if you need access to the V24 serial connection, the front panel would need changing or a hole cut for the two RJ 45 connectors.
