PM1500 and XTL1500
What are the differences between a PM1500 and a XTL1500 ?
"The world runs on radio."
Re: PM1500 and XTL1500
Here you go:
1. PM 1500 is a conventional only radio. XTL 1500 will do trunking.
2. PM 1500 requires an external speaker. XTL 1500 has an integrated front-firing speaker in the control head.
3. PM 1500 has smaller front panel knobs. XTL 1500 has larger front panel knobs.
4. PM 1500 is available in VHF/UHF only. XTL 1500 can be had in VHF, UHF, 800MHz and 900MHz.
5. I'm sure there are some other differences (maximum number of modes, etc.) that others will point out.
As far as the RF deck is concerned, it's the same thing just running different firmware. The firmware and control heads are the only real difference.
PM 1500 was developed to allow conventional customers an easy migration path to P25, and XTL 1500 is the lower-cost mobile aimed at trunking customers looking to migrate to P25 trunking.

Re: PM1500 and XTL1500
No, PM1500 and XTL1500 are two different beasts. PM1500 is high power only, XTL1500 is mid power only, so the boards are completely unalike. And I'm pretty sure the XTL1500 won't do 9600 digital trunking, only 3600 analog.
Re: PM1500 and XTL1500
I stand corrected then. But I'm certain the PM1500 board and XTL 5000 high power board are identical. You know how they do things these days.
Re: PM1500 and XTL1500
I can confirm the high power XTL5000 and PM1500 use the same mainboards. High power XTL2500 as well
