MCS 2000 Questions

Post by Thomas »

A few things I'm wondering about..

1. On model 2 and 3 it appears there is an RSSI (3 verticle bars on right side of display) when powered up. I use two model 3 radios on a 800 MHz smartzone system and one model 2 on 927MHz for Ham. None of them show RSSI and the trunked radios won't light the busy amber lamp when a TG is in use. Are they even supposed too? Both the 900 & 800 MHz radios will show the busy amber light in conventional mode. Is there something being missed in programming or is this just the way it is.

2. On the model 3 smartzone radios, both are the same model number with the same flash unsure on firmware but can check. One radio will display radio ID's and the other does not. Again could this be something missed in programming or perhaps a firmware issue.

Let me know if more information is needed.

Any input appreciated.

As far as I know, the RSSI indicator was never actually implemented.

Your radio likely requires a flash option to display ID's. What are the two flashcodes?

The RSSI indicator was implemented. It used to work on the MCS2000 in my car back when it was on a trunking system.

However, when I used older flashed radio it did not work.

OK. In that case, the radio in question likely has firmware that is too old to support the RSSI indicator. Flash upgrade the firmware in the radio to the latest version and presumably that feature will work. I do know for a fact it does not work on conventional systems though.

This may be the case for displaying radio ID's as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. The flash codes for the 800MHz radios are 000008-000000-2. The 900MHz radio is a similar smartzone flash with a few other option like 240 modes, nothing crazy but only used for conventional 900 stuff.

Another quick one if you don't mind...I was checking the code plugs for firmware version and they all say unknown. Is this because I'm not physically connected to the radio? I'm thinking if I connect up and do a read it will show? I think thats how my CDM radios are. I will be near the radios tonight and check them all. Thanks again.

That's correct. Firmware versions will only display if you're actively connected to the radio and have just read the code plug from it.
