CommandStar Lite, need DDN6127 module

Post by RF_Burns »

Hello all,
I have a CommandStar Lite in a small Fire Dispatch application. A lightning strike has cause some damage to I believe the Four Channel Expansion Module (DDN6127). Whenever audio is received on any channel, a particular channel while start a feedback echo unless its volume is down or muted. All other channels function ok. This particular channel will also not transmit or receive from its connected repeater (4 wire), but the repeater works fine.

The DDN6127 is no longer available from Motorola so I'm looking to see whats out there.

thanks

I believe they were made by PlantCML, who are now Cassidian Communications. Perhaps they still have parts available?

But before you go that route, have you swapped wiring to verify the problem is indeed with that particular port?

It seems that I can put in a Factory Order Request and they will "make one", However I am not sure that is the problem.

The Console has 7 channels so one radio port is free, but it seems you can't assign channel control modules to ports, they are fixed, at least I can't see anywhere how to do this.

I have swapped radio connections and the problem stays with Ch 8 slot.

With channel 8 unmuted, any audio on any other channel causes channel 8 to feedback (howl). Turning Ch 8 volume down or muting it stops the feedback. Channel 8 also will not transmit or receive from its connected radio. The rest of the console is fine.

Its hard to do any troubleshooting as this is the only console and the backup system is not user friendly... so the system needs to stay operational. Makes it hard to fix!

I hear ya. If I recall correctly, the unit should have two expansion cards in it...channels 1-4 on one, channels 5-8 on the other. Are both expansion cards in the unit the same...ie: both tone or DC? If they are, swapping them around should have the problem then show on channel 4 instead of 8. Of course, that involves taking the console down for a bit.

Well you would think that is how they would do it... but channels 1-4 are on the main board and this is the "Expansion Board" for channels 5-8. All channels are tone control.

Maybe that's how the new board is constructed.
