MOTOROLA CENTRACOM SERIES II PLUS CRT

Post by icom98 »

There of two of these crrrently at auction and I'd like to know if these will foot the bill for my needs. I'd like to run 4 ot 6 base stations using a Centra Concole. If I buy somethng used, will it call me an arm and a leg to have to reprogrammed for my requirements?
If anyone has knowledge on the, I'd really appreciate it. I'd even go with a Centracom II if in good shape and read for my needs.

Thank you for your help in advance,
Larry

Well in my humble and experienced opinion, you don't want a Centracom II. They use UV EPROMS that require a very proprietary and special configuration to program and are so much of a pain it's really not worth it. The only difference between Series II and Series II+ is the console cards - Throw out the OMI's and bring in the TOMI's (or TTOMI's).

Centracom Series II+ is ideal because the console cards (called TOMI's) can be refitted with EEPROMs (if they aren't already) and programmed via a PC running Centracom Series II Plus Field PROM Programmer.

Series II+ supports both buttons & LEDs type consoles as well as DOS-based PC (CRT) consoles.

Programming these things is a real nightmare if you don't know what you are doing, but it can be done and once you get the hang of it and know the quirks, it's fairly simple.

II+ CRT requires the absolute latest version (R13.04.00) to run on today's PC's, anything earlier requires a really old, slow computer to do the job.

I've posted a lot of information on II+ in the past, perhaps search by my username to find some of it.

If you do decide to pursue this, the best thing I can suggest is to get a hold of all the manuals, most especially the II+ Field PROM Programmer manual, and start reading.

The best part is, once you've mastered the II+ and you find the required hardware to upgrade to Gold Elite, it'll be a breeze since a majority of the knowledge transfers over, it's just the GUI for the operator positions and Console Database Manager that are different.
