Mcc5500 or zetron 4000 series on a mixed mode astro system

Post by Radiogeek97 »

Folks
my dept is doing a complete upgrade of our radio system, our infrastructure is going to be mixed mode astro digital. The problem is that Motorola completely sucks and has been holding up send us a quote for nearly 6 months. Not to get into details but their red tape is herrendous.
that being said I have always liked zetron, however I do not believe that if we go conventional astro digital down the road the console will be abel to handle the full MDC capability and wont tie into the quantar repeaters directly via wire line? If there are any Zetron experts in the house could they chime in and give me a quick lesson on how compatible the series 4000 consoles are with a mixed mode and possibly a full digital (conventional system) down the road.

thanks

Why don't you just try calling Zetron and see what kind of help they give you. They don't bite the hand that feeds them like Motorola does.

I did call zetron and they were very helpful, what their engineering folks told me is that they font have full Motorola astro compatibility, I think all they could do is mdc id and maybee call alert. I posted because I wanted an unbiased assessment or maybee sombody on the board had zetron and went moto vice versa. I can say that moto dosent give a crap about or lousy 400k order we have to practically beg them for the info to send them the P.O.

A Zetron 4000 series (4020 or 4048) With intergrator RD will work in astro or cai through a diu, now you will need a kenwood Irim ( from zetron ) with a kenwood tk5x10 connected to one of the channels, in order to decode the astro id's the emergencies will also work but the Irim is only designed as a decoder so the console cannot send any astro signalling out in order to acknowledge the subscriber. Some programming changes can be made in the cps to accomodate for this. if you are running a motorola astro system and you want to take advantage of the signalling features then a mcc5500 is the best choice, because it will connect directly to the acim port. The only thing you will be able to decode at this point with zetron is the astro id's. This setup works good especially with an alias list. also encryption is not a problem since the diu sends clear audio to the console.
