Replacement for MTX8250??

I am working with a company that has a Type II 800 trunked system and were using the MTX8250s until they were discontinued. They have looked at the XPR series but not very impressed. Any suggestions for a new radio?
Functional requirements:
Type II trunking
48 talk groups minimum
Must have keypad for phone patch

XTS2500 Model III would be my choice.

Those are your two options, the mototrbo units or the astro 25 series. Most of our privacy plus type subscribers are buying the trbo's.

The XPR6580 blows the MTX8250 out of the water. Frankly the 8250 is garbage, good riddance it has been canceled

Funny you say that, one of our big MTX850/8250 customers has purchased 6 or 7 TRBO replacements in the past 6 months & claims they don't work nearly as well! Very intermittent access & poor performance in fringe areas. We haven't checked into it yet, but will be doing so shortly.

Try checking FSBs there was an issue with signaling words.
We are seeing the exact opposite with coverage. Have some very fringy areas indoors, 8250s won't trunk on. Tx stability on the 8250 is 2.5ppm I think the TRBO is 0.5ppm. Biggest downside is the antenna, it's a beast.

I don't know about performance as our two main customers who went from the 8250 to the trbo have excellent system coverage ( half the time they don't realize they have an rf problem until the radio comes in for something cosmetic) but the trbo's have a high failure rate of the channel selector switch in a production/warehouse enviroment.

SUBJECT: XPR™ 4380/4580/6380/6580 units may experience intermittent system access
MODEL / SYSTEM AFFECTED:
XPR™ 4380/4580/6380/6580 units with SMARTNET/Privacy Plus firmware R01.05.02 or earlier
Model numbers affected are: AAH55UCH9LB1AN, AAH55UCC9LB1AN, AAH55UCH9LB3AN
AAM27UMH9LB1AN and AAM27UMC9LB1AN
SYMPTOM:
XPR™ 4380/4580/6380/6580 units with SMARTNET/Privacy Plus firmware R01.05.02 or earlier may experience
intermittent system access or when in trunking mode, the unit shows RSSI indicator bar but will not be allowed to
access the system or transmit.
CAUSE:
The Inbound Signaling Word (ISW) adjustment in the radios programming was not optimized in the factory for all
bands and models of the radio
NOTE 1: Intermittent system access can be caused by a number of factors. The problem outlined in this bulletin
will only address problems caused by units where the ISW adjustment was not optimized in the factory process. If
resolution below does not resolve the customer problem, please continue with characterization of the problem.
RESOLUTION:
Update to firmware version R01.05.03 or later to correct this problem. The firmware is available for download from
Motorola On-Line (MOL) at the following location: Resource Center>Software>Two-Way>MOTOTRBO>Conv.
