Tower Question

Post by bundy125 »

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if someone might have an idea of what it might cost these days to put up a free standing (Rohn SSV type) 100' tower from base to tip? Appreciate any help y'all might be able to give.

Thanks

When I was building towers for the cell companies it cost about as much for the base as it did for the tower. This will depend on the soil conditions where you plan to install the tower. You had better have a soil study done before you go too far. Then more than likely you will need to have an engineer design the tower base to fit the soil conditions before any zoning board will approve any building permit.

What may have seemed like an easy task to buy a tower, install it and put the antenna on it can turn into a real can of worms. If you have never had to walk through this jungle, your in for an interesting trip.

On another topic, most towers purchased are done on what is called a tower load requirement. In other words, you need to know ahead of time just what antennas and coax you plan to put on the tower. The specs on towers have changed over the years and are now required to be built stronger than what they were built to 20 years ago. We can thank a couple of hurricains going through the gulf coast region for the increased tower strength specs. The loading also effects the tower base design.

Good luck on your project. You need to provide a good deal more information before any meaningful numbers on cost can be brought forward.
