XTS5000 Flashkey Purchases

Post by jbrian »

I was looking at buying a used XTS5000. Various posts on the net indicated that if you wanted to add features to the radio the big M would only do so if you were the original puchaser of the radio. Is there truth to these statements. Thanks Justin

As far as I know, so long as you provide the model number, serial number, and current flashcode of the radio, Motorola will sell you the flash upgrade.

The best way to go about this is to contact your local MSS, and after making sure they deal with this tier of radio (which I would hope any MSS would), talk with their sales people about ordering the upgrade.

I've never come across a situation regarding original purchaser issues when ordering flash upgrades at work. We just give them the information they need to process the request, and they do it.

Now if your existing flashcode is something really funky or "whored out", that might raise a flag. But if it's something reasonably normal, I doubt you'll have an issue.

I have found Motorola is not very concerned about the serial number so much as the model number and starting flashcode

The whore flashes will raise flags in their system because they contain invalid or incompatible options. I.e. trunking and FPP
