HI:
Pac-RT is a Acronym for Motorola's small
Portable Package Repeater that in general
piggy-backs a Mobile Radio.
Its a Small, low power ( 1/4 Watt ) repeater designed
for Cross-Band Operation.
Sorry, one is NOT able to use a VHF Pac-RT and a VHF
Mobile at the same time do to the Desense problem ( Unles
you had some very good Cavities ) and that is not a pratical
approch.
You can also use a Motorola R*I*C*K for this application
as well, if you have another Mobile Radio like a Maxtrac
That is to say, a UHF Pac-RT is used to control or
access a Mobile radio in the ( VHF ) Range, or Low Band
Etc.
So when one has a UHF HT, you can talk & Listen to what
is happening on a alternate Freq.
Pretty nice items, and they are a real hassle to set up.
They made them for Mitreks, Micors, and even Maxtracs.....
But the Interfcae Cable is the tough part.

Sounds like he needs a Extender Module for his trunking radio???
A VHF Maxtrac or Raduis radio with the 16 pin logic board to "talk" to the fire dept and the Extender module to go between your mobile radio on trunking. Only problem is the trunking system does not always respond in real time and messages from the fire dept on VHF WILL be lost.
