W9 Control Head Disassembly

Post by NSPD »

Anyone have any advice or tips on refurbing W9 Astro Spectra control heads?

I have 3 of them that I need to replace all the plastic parts on. I cracked one open and I can see a fragile-looking flex cable with no apparent connectors to separate the halves.

Also, anyone have a PDF of the basic service manual?

Thanks!

Your starting down the path of no return. Parts are starting to get scarce for the W9 control heads. Not sure just what mother M still has in stock. Used heads can be found in various stages of condition. You can obtain a used head far cheaper that trying to rehab an old head with new parts, if you can find them.

Yeah.. i'm aware that is the direction that i'm headed.

I do like minty-looking radios (or control heads in this case) though, and my 3 W9 heads are pretty beat-up since they came out of patrol cars in SC.

I did get the BSM though which answered the questions that I had.

Thanks everyone!
