Here is a question for all Batboard members...
What model/family of conventional Motorola radios do you think are among the most popular with volunteer fire and EMS agencies?
Personally, I see a lot of HT1250s in my neck of the woods. What about you?

+1 HT1250. Every fire or EMS person I've seen recently is carrying one (or, very rarely, an XTS2500 to get on the PD TRS), with CDM1250s in the cars to boot...
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

I guess it depends on the system that the agency is on (conventional, trunking, digital etc etc)....
for volunteers im sure they would all love to have XTS5000 however since they are not getting paid the price of the radio maybe a huge factor.
The HT/MTS MTX series maybe more popular due to size and price.

I know one volly that has a XTS2500 but he paid for it out of his own pocket. I know the Volly Fire Dept 15 minutes from me has XTS2500 to access the TRS but are paid for by the Region.

The vollie FDs in my area sure do love them some yellow V/7/8 APX7000XEs. I'm sure most (if not all) of them were grant-funded and bought through the county contract.
The anti-Motorola contingent use Kenwood TK280/380s and 2180/3180s.

It's a mix of XTS25000/5000 and MTS2000 here. I know the fire guys like the MTS2k due to the fact "it has less buttons to FUBAR!"

How did they afford it with Rick Perry nuking vollie funding? And of all the things they want to buy it's $5000 handhelds?motorola_otaku wrote:The vollie FDs in my area sure do love them some yellow V/7/8 APX7000XEs. Wow, it's been a while since I've used a MTS2000. Good point about less buttons making for less confusions.
Does anyone know if the MTS2000 programs with the same USB RKN4105 cable that we use on our XTS 2500s and 5000s?

Different cable. It needs a XTS3000/Jedi cable and a RIB boxspeedbird727 wrote:Wow, it's been a while since I've used a MTS2000. Good point about less buttons making for less confusions.
