Hi, Guys,
I'm new wto the BatBoard.
I have two different chargers for the HT1000, and wonder if anyone can advise where I can find some data on them.
First is the Single Unit NTN1171A, which has 3 battery contacts on the back wall. It's listed as a "Rapid Charger", but I'm wondering if, when the LEDs change from red "Charging" to green "Complete", does this unit go into a trickle-charge mode, or does it shut completely off?
The second charger is a Single Unit NTN8831A, wich has 4 battery contacts on the back wall. The label on the bottom indicates that it's a rapid-charge unit with a steady red LED while rapid charging, flashing green at 90%, and steady green when fully charged. But again, does it go into a trickle-charge mode when "fully charged", or does it shut off?
With either of these models, if they go into a trickle-charge mode, does anybody know what the trickle charging current is? In other words, is it OK to leave the radio in the charger all the time. or should I remove the radio after it's been fully charged?
One ting I've done with other chargers is to install an on/off timer on the AC line cord, set up to turn the charger on for 1/2 hour once a day. Hopefully, this will keep the batteries up to full charge without over-charging or cooking them.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for any suggestions, es 73 Gary W3DTN

Re: HT1000 Charger specs
They both go into trickle after the light turns green. The 1171 is supposed to go green at about 90% and is considered usable but another 2 hours will bring it to around 100. The 8831 is 100% when the light goes to steady green. The battery should be removed after charging on both of these, long term at trickle is no good. The timer doesn't sound too good either being these are rapid chargers you're putting about 50% into the battery each day without discharge other than a miniscule amount of self discharge, Nicads will loose memory in this type of daily charge and need to be cycled to maintain their capacity.
Re: HT1000 Charger specs
In the "Complete" mode the charger is STILL charging the battery at about the 12% capacity current and will overcharge the battery if left in the charger.
There is a simple modification for those chargers so the "complete" mode does not overcharge the battery.
In the mean time do not leave your battery in the charger for more than two hours past the time the charger switches into Complete.

RadioSouth and Will,
Thank you! That's the info I was looking for. The comment about the timeron a rapid charger is useful, too.
Thanks, again, guys.
