XTS4000 Backlight timer

Post by asmitty0010 »

My guess is there is no way around this but when programming the backlight timer for my 4k it does not accept the option for "infinite" backlight. (cps says invalid field) I have this unit in the vehicular charger at all times and wished there was a way to keep the backlight on. The most I can have is 60 seconds. When i program my xts2500, that will accept infinite backlight no problem. Is there any way to force an infinite backlight into the radio or am I out of luck?

thanks in advance.

The infinite feature is used when a button is programmed for the LIGHT function. In looking you can't program a LIGHT button for the XTS4000. This could be why its not valid.

i do have the top orange button programmed for backlighting. It has three levels of intensity. The longest valid option the CPS will accept for this is 60 seconds for the 4000. However, on my other 2500/5000's infinite is a valid option.

Maybe it's a way to force battery conservation...?

Thats the DIM function. I am talking the actual LIGHT function. The XTS4k doesn't have it. And I agree, probably for battery conservation.

The front display's backlight looks like it's EL (if someone knows for sure correct me: I haven't had the radio open or seen a service manual to confirm if this is true.)

If it is EL, they don't have much of a service life. You'll burn it out fairly quickly if you leave it on full time.
