I changed out the lcd to no effect.I changed out the ribbon cable that goes to the keyboard assembly.Same dim backlight.

Only thing I have not changed out is the keyboard assembly.

I bet if you did change out the keyboard assembly,the backlight will be bright like it should be?Not 100% sure.

Model no does not tell you if a radio is "R"or not..Same thing goes for the Astro Saber R,XTS3000R,XTS2500i,XTS5000R portables.All these

radio have the same model no as the non "R"radios.

I would not go swimming with a '"R"rated radio unless you can get it tested to make sure the water tight ...

Under MTS2000 CPS,did you check the Zone/Ch assignment?

To make sure that you have the correct channel no assigned to the correct zone and to change personality type from trunked to conventional?Also check under SECURE option and make sure that you don't have hardware encryption enabled checked off.

If a KVL3000 unit only has ASTRO 25 mode,does it still have the ability to load key in conventional P25 IMBE and analog Securenet?

The unit has DES(DES-OFB/DES-XL).

When I worked security years ago for a School District,I had times when I would be attempting to hand cuff a guy and during the take down,the mic would come loose from my lapel and the cord of the mic getting tangled around my leg and having to stop and unwrap the mic cord from my leg.

I bought a XTS5000 Model II VHF one time on Ebay that had a "SIERRA MOD"Type I CCI module in it.When I bought it,I was not aware that it had a SIERRA Module in it till I received it and posted looking for info on Bat Labs forum.

The US GOV definitely wants to recover any radios with a TYPE I CCI ...

What is the firmware HOST for each radios?

With ASTRO 25 Series portables,you need a minimum of HOST R08.xx for QCII paging to work.

Both radios will do MDC-1200 signaling even if the flash codes were only H35 conventional only.

The QCII is available on the XTS5000 after HOST 9 if I am not mistaken?Not sure on the firmware version needed on the XTS2500.The QCII is a standard option on both radios.

MOTOROLA NTN7396BR Prem Batt NiMH 600 mAh 7.5V

Only issue is that since its only 600mAh,it will only last about 4 hrs if you have your radio set to high power,

Battery is half the size of the standard battery.With this battery on the radio,the radio is slightly thinner than a pack of cigarettes.

That radio also could have been previously programmed with MCS2000 CPS Ver R02.03.00.If it has,your R02.02.00 will not work.

Are you getting a "SOFTWARE TOO NEW FOR PROGRAM"error on the screen?

There is a mod out there to add the LCD readout from a Impres Six unit charger to the Single unit charger on Bat Labs.Another way is to get the Impres Battery readout cradle that connects to a pc.I know this way is not a charger but another way to get the Battery info.

Now if you have a XTS3000/Jedi series USB programming cable,Motorola never made a USB version of the Jedi/XTS3000 cable.

Moto only made a serial port version.

You need a LCD with ribbon flex assembly and the Model II/III front shield.(has the full keypad)Lastly, Model II or Model III housing.That is the hardware part.

A DES-XL/DES-OFB UCM board a XTS3000 usually goes for around$75.00 or so..They can be some on Ebay at times.

The radio is very easy to open.What ever you do,don't use a screwdriver..It will damage your housing.Use the proper tool.

The battery on the left is a XTS2500/XTS1500/MT1500/PR1500 Astro 25 Series portable battery.I can tell by the battery contact on the back being higher than the lower ones on the HT1250 Waris battery which is the one on the right in the pic.

Also,the dead giveaway when you said it fits your EF ...

Turn off the "out of range"indicator in the CPS..Its a indicator for trunking systems.
