2002 Ford Explorer Sport

Post by yardbirdjr »

Hi!! I was just wanting to find out if anybody has any pictures of a radio install in the 2002 Explorer Sport using both Motorola Spectra C-9 and C-7 control heads.

Mine has limited space and I would like to possibly mount either 4 C-9 control heads or 3 C-7 control heads and 1 C-9 control head.

If anyboudy has any pictures please send them to me at the email address below.

[email protected]

Thanks in advance and God Bless

The best thing would be to spend the money for a jotto desk console. This is hands down the best looking console for the ford explorers, in my opinion. It installs over the existing console, and then when you are ready to sell the vehicle, just pull out the console and bolt the old plastic one back in place. I have installed a few of these and they are absolutely very easy. With an electric drill, it takes about 10-20 minutes to bolt into place, then you can install your radios.

That would be my suggestion. I wish I owned an explorer just so I could have the console.

I had a 2002 explorer xlt and remote mounted the radios. However I just got a New 2003 Explorer XLT and purchased the JOTTO DESK console. It is really worth the money and fits like a glove...
I put a Spectra/2 cdm 1550's and a bc780 xlt.

Light switches are mounted on side of console....

Yeah, the only down side to the Jottodesk console (I forgot) was because of factory heating ducts in the original console, you can't have something with alot of depth. Remote mount is the way to go. The first few slots near the dash are fine for whatever, but the farther back you go the less depth you have.

You can remove the heating duct, but just remember it will blow heat in the winter and a/c in the summer.

That's not a problem in Texas, since our winter on the Gulf Coast lasts about 45 days at the most. :D
