Hi,
Does anybody know much about the GP1280? I am told it is the European version of the HT1550.
This one is capable of UHF trunking and conventional. The model number indicates MPT signalling which is of no use here. Aside from using it as a conventional radio, it appears very limited - PL/DPL only. Is there some way to Americanize it? It seems chock full of features.
I fear illegal confiscation if I were to contact Motorola and to get manuals or software cost so much to have them shipped from Europe.
What part(s) regionalize a radio?
Is it worth buying?
Thanks, Eric

Hi there,
As a UK ham, I know this model well and it is serverely knobbled in functions outside the MPT system. It does have conventional channels and these are as you say quite featureless. I have used one on 70cms for a while now, but the cost of RSS would be prohibitive, it cannot be progged with anything other than the MPT RSS/CPS. No US RSS will work, there is major differences in the Firmware to enable MPT to work on these sets so I doubt there is not much room for a conversion to a fully conventional full featured set. However the RSS cannot be purchased outside Motorola UK dealerships cos they require you to hold a dealer permit to even buy the RSS. In the UK there is only 2 outlets to even program these sets for you, at exorbitant (For non commercial men like myself) fees.
My advice is to look toward a US version as it has proved a costly excercise to get it where you want.
All the Best,
Hope this helps Steve.
PS you wouldnt be able to help with an S record for my GP1200 would you.??
Can any one please help me out and oblige with an S record for a GP1200 H01RDH9CK7CN This is UHF full keypad, with display.
S record must, once loaded into radio be read with RSS EVN4656A R00.01.10 Nov 96.
This is a MPT Radio.
Many many thanks for your help and great Forum.
