MODAT and XTS3000 Why no sidetone?

Post by ssybert »

When I enable MODAT on my XTS the only time I actually HEAR the Modat being sent over the air is when I'm transmitting secure. If I switch it to clear TX, there is no sign the modat is being sent. I dont hear it from the front speaker and I dont get any type of sidetone. I get the quick BEEP indicating I'm transmitting clear but nothing else. If I listen on another radio, I can hear the modat coming over but If I dont know when it ends, and start talking, it wont go. The mic is muted while the modat is being sent but I get NO indication of when it's through. I do, however hear the modat and know when it's done when I'm on secure. Why the difference between clear and secure transmissions? Anyone else seen this problem? Any known workarounds?

I do have it enabled. If I disable it, will it allow me to HEAR the modat going out over the air when I hit the PTT in clear mode so I actually KNOW when I'm good to speak into the mic?

Well Modat's a cool tone but it sucks that I have dont know when it's done sending. I know if I wait 1 second it will always be done but I'm so used to having audible verification it'a kinda agrivating not having it. Thanks for the info. I'll experiment with this tonight and report my findings. I suspect you're right on target though.
