Group looking for A B5 codeplug for A MTX8000. I want to force the codeplug into my B3 model. I tried the one off of the codeplug website and it would not open on the Lab Software. Thanks in advance.

I gather from your post that you are getting a 'Codeplug to new/old' error upon reading the B5 codeplug.
One way to circumvent this would be to use the lab to read/write without 'unpacking' the codeplug into archive format. Then use a newer non-lab version of MTSX that can then edit the contents of the radio's codeplug.

Never had that one before... perhaps the software is fussy. Run it is pure DOS if it is not already. Try some other codeplugs to see if it is a codeplug archive problem or a software bug. MT2000, MTS2000, and MTX9000 will also work.
I have Lab R.02.00.01 and the B5 codeplug from the supersite causes the 'codeplug to old' (although it really means new) error. Using MTSX R.06.00.00 it loads without a problem.

Read the codeplug, like you already did. Ignore the 'codeplug too old' error. The LAB RSS has actually loaded the packed codeplug into it's program, it just couldn't 'unpack' the contents to display it for editing purposes. So, now go into the 'read/write with no pack/unpack' screen, and press "F8-Write to radio". The LAB will force the B5 codeplug into the B3 unit. Then use your regular RSS to do the actual programming of the radio. Simple as that.RADIO43 wrote:Okay,

Thank you for the advise. I am following your instruction to the "T". Heres where the trouble is. When I go to read the coleplug off a disk, it still comes up with the codeplug to old and then it shows that it is not in the memory (meaning the model # does not appear in the top left hand corner). I actually did the F3 to read codeplug from disk and then went into the "read/write" with no pack/unpack. I actually programed the codeplug into the radio and it took it. I have read the radio using "RSS" and now I am get that there is no codeplug in the radio. I am thinking I need a B5 radio to read and then program it right into the radio rather than using a codeplug file off a disk. Or is there any B5 Codeplugs that will not come up Too Old for the etc. Thanks again.

You need LAB version 3.02.00 for this to work. If you are using 2.00.01, then that is likely your problem. Myself & others have done this many times. You are correct the RSS will NOT show the model # after the 'codeplug too old' error, but it will still be loaded in packed form.

ok... here's the workaround you will need. the quotes are my posts located at the end of the discussion i posted above... there a couple of other tips after...

I don't have access to the B7 original anymore. all i have is the archive. every time i tried to load the cpg, i would get too new error. so... here is my workaround. i moved the copy of the archive to the main directory. once there, i went to the f6 archive/srecord menu. i then read the archive. i went back out to the read/write w/ no unpack. i programmed the cpg in the radio. success. so far, the only problem i have is that i cannot read the cpg w/ the lab or go to the service menu due to the cpg being too new. minor issue. might have an issue when trying to fix the s/n. damn.”

try this method… it should work for you.
A couple of tips:
Make sure you write down the exact name of the archive and make a copy in the main directory… the same dir where the runtime file, exe files, and such are located. when you go into the f6 menu, you will be choose the read archive button, but you must type in the name EXACTLY AS IT APPEARS IN DOS. Once you do this, it will load the cpg, keep in mind, it is not unpacked and you will not see the details. Go back one menu and choose the read/write w/ no unpack… write to the radio… boom. There you go! All you have to do is align the radio. Before you do this, make sure you go into the alignment and write down all the softpot values. After you have shoved the new cpg in, you can put those original softpot values back in - and you will be aligned. You might have to use regular mtxs software to do the alignment… it is a bit safer and more stable. The same may apply for the reading the softpot values in the first place. Good luck!

I just wanted to thank everyone (wavetar, weirdnuts,ect,) for all of there hel[ on this project. Tonight I was able to use MTSX Lab 3.00.02 Software and the Codeplug Swap went perfect. My B3 is now a B5 with the exception of the front ID Display, althoug I am wondering if that is possible??? Again thank you all and cheers

Another way to do it is to get your hands on a continuous rotary codeplug... But they are only useful if you've got a display.RADIO43 wrote:KC2DLA, Cetral 150,
I read that you can make a B3 a B5 with out converting it to a top mount Display. I want to enable it to do more Channels. I heard it will take the B5 codeplug and you can use the A,B,C Switch to add the channels. Thanks Again.
