Lowband ball mount

Post by KG6EAQ »

I think I want to mount a ball mount lowband antenna on the rear quarter panel. Any recommendations on models? I'm going to be using it on 6m and listening on some 42mhz freq's. Should I mount it square in the center of the panel? What kind of radius does a ball mount need?

Now all you need is 300 watts going into it and you'll talk across the country! Makes 800 look like it sucks more than it already does.
There's no band like low band.

Get the A/S black ball/flange and stainless spring and whip....that's what I bought for my (soon to be yours) X9000.

BTW, do you need any freq's programmed? I'm assuming the 42 MHz freqs are for CHP. I've always wanted a reason to program those...

Naw I dont need any I have the programmer and I'm not sure of my lineup yet. I gotta get the scanner out and see what 6m freq's are really popular around here and then make sure I get all the local CHP freq's popped in there. I have a scanner I use for CHP already but it would be nice to have CHP on one and the scanner on something else, plus if I have 32ch I better use them all!

Why stop at 64 when you can have 128 or 256? :)

I miss my 128 channel lowband x9000...

eh be happier with a Spectra.. the Syntor x9000 is a great radio but its really starting to get OLD. Design was what mid 80?s almost 20 years old now.

I was going to use one in the burb but it took up so much mounting space.

That's why radio gods invented the Orion :)

What works best for the ball mount hole in vehicle sheet metal? Greenlee punch, hole saw, or something else?
