i really enjoyed the description for this xts3k. i wrote a kind note to the fella to explain the differences between the 3k, 3.5k, and the 5k. my only question is.... if it's the same, then why is it different?
I didn't see anything wrong with his description of the XTS3500, other than the line about "it has all the improvements that the 5000 brought"...such as?

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
the 3500 has a better receiver (better sensitivity and less imune to intermod). Also has a better tx section. Designed to work in more severe RF environments.
Also the 3500 starts up quicker than the 3k. (turn on to ready to receive or tx).

Yeah, I know all that. But since the XTS3500 came first, those would be the improvements IT brought. I was wondering what improvements it had which the XTS5000 brought? Just a bad choice of wording on the seller's part, I believe.

i wrote the seller a kind note so he wouldnt get angry letters from buyers about misleading them. he replied with the following... of course i responded... enjoy!
I actually work on these, the boards in the XTS3500 are different and better. I have had a new 3000 and 3500 next to each other and the 3500 receives flawlessly while the 3000 would break in and out. this was after both were aligned. I have also had an 5000 and found it to be simular in sensitivity to the 3500 insomuch it was able to hear distant simplex signals more reliably than the 3000..
Both the 3500 and 5000 are nice radios though.. I wouldnt have another 3000 though..

I replied:
Yes. The 35 has better TX and ax...no doubt there... mostly due to the lack of trunking capabilities. But the 5000 is a different beast. Sure... parts may look the same, but the controllers are very different -- especially on the software/firmware/operation side. The controller for the 3k and 3500 are only slightly different. In fact, the RF board for each model is the same... within each band that is... My point is, don’t mislead people by getting them to believe it is something that is isn't.
I agree... I'd love to own a 5000, but frankly, I don’t want one 'til the kinks are worked out. The 3000 is pretty decent now... as long as you have a current HOST/DSP version. And that even depends on whether or not you need trunking...
