2001 Durango speaker Loc.

Post by Clamhattenmoagan »

I have a Dynamax Speaker that I am looking to install into my Durango. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in this area and could provide me with some expertise on how to mount this speaker in my truck.

On a side note, I have the H.D. towing package installed, so I have parallel radiators, so the space immediatly behind the grill is negligable. Any ideas how to mount it beside the radiator?

Thanks for any help/advise that you can provide.

You probably won't be able to put it in the grille opening at all. If you take the skid plate down from under the radiator area you will have all kinds of room on the frame rail between the frame and the engine. The speaker points out of the lower grille area and seems to work real good. When the skidplate is re-installed the speaker is hidden and well protected.

On a Durango, the best thig to do is install a pushbumper and mount a standard speaker on the bar. Putting it under the truck hinders the sound something awful.

Look into CPI's speakers, too.

If I had a dollar for every Dynamax that I replaced from failure in the last two years, I could probably buy a new laptop.

If you are set on using the 'slim line' speaker, toss the Dynamax in the dumpster and buy the one from Whelen that looks like the Dynamax. It's louder and even sounds more natural- not "tinny" like the Dynamax. Haven't had one fail yet. Yes everyone...I said Whelen.

I have done two Durangos, both with Dual speakers. I used Federal Signal BP100's (the big square ones) mounted just in front of the wheel wells on both sides of the truck. I built a custom bracket which I bolted to the truck, and then bolted the speaker to the bracket. Worked very well! Loud too!

I have a CPI grill mount for the Suburban and it eats up the dynamax.

The Dynamax is a POS.

One purpose for one is to keep it under the seat and throw it at the jackoff that just cut you off.

I'm not fond of the dynamax... the sound reproduction is a little off and they sound weak compared to other 100w speakers.
