Microphonics on Kenwood TKR720 Help

Post by Rich »

Hi
I just got a Kenwood TKR-720 VHF Repeater
and it works great other than microphonics problem.
Does anyone know the fix for this?
If I tap on the outside cabinet you
hear it on the output when the repeater is keyed, etc.
Any help from Kenwood Gurus would be appreciated.

Rich,
I've had radios go microphonic on me and it was usually caused by the grounding screws on the rf/logic boards or just poor contacts on interconnect boards. A quick disassembly and cleaning usually cleared it up. I'm not familiar with any of Kenwoods stuff but it maybe worth a try.

Like Doug said, remove your cabinet cover and look for corrosion on the mounting screws and your boards. Sometimes if repeaters are mounted outside a skin forms on the surfaces where the paint has rubbed off and can cause some weird things to happen in extreme circumstances. Also check all of your grounds. Just a long shot, haven't been in a TKR in a quite a while.
