I'm having a careful look at the XTS3500 RSS and would appreciate some sample codeplugs.

It's my understanding that there hasn't been a lot of experimenting with the 3500's due to the fact they are one of the first radios out there that have encrypted codeplugs, and their software looks and seems to be the same as the 3000/astro saber, but isn't.

They are trying to crack down on people making adjustments and such, and IIRC, they started with the 3500.

Open Runtime.ODB in your magical hex editor:

Do a text search for whatever limit you'd like to change:

Example:

Lower limit is 450.0000 (search for "450")
Change all but the last occurance of 450. (the last occurance is refering to a text message and has nothing to do with frequency)

Save while making a back-up, done.

Alex - yes very much the case but where there's a will there's a way.

As you probably know, to attack any encrypted system you need sufficient depth (ie a bunch of different codeplugs). The treatment of the new codeplug adds to the challenge of the new M-Core microRISC architecture CPU.

Oh for the days of the good old 6800 instruction set and the elegant (IMHO) 68HC11!

As Paper Geek pointed out, out of band programming is as simple as editing the odb file with a hex editor. Same as for the dos version of MTS2000 and Astro mobile/portable DOS.

Band limits are not the isisue, my interests are programing and codeplug structure. I'm looking for a diverse range of codeplugs.

tpg, is this true for the band limmit on the Astro Saber? I would like to have a few 440 ham freqs in there also. I have'nt had a chance to even see if the RSS would allow a 440 to 450 freq in there, my AS is a 450 to 512 radio.

Mr. Flashport may have a few UHF cp's for the 3500.

Will, yes it is true for the DOS version of Astro portable software. The instructions are on the Batlabs site under model specific information.

As Rocket said.. as long as it's the DOS version, just open astrop.odb and do a text search. Replace all occurances that relate to a frequency.

One key is some astros work in digital down there, some don't. Each radio has it's own unique personality and tuning.

Astro portables seem to go down to 440 MHz fine and work in analog and Astro. Just make sure your radio alignment is fine, especially the mod comp.

The Astro Spectra mobiles go down to 440 MHz and work fine in analog but Astro has issues. I've had to change resistors on the vocon board to get the proper Astro deviation, then go back and realign the radio for the freqs above 450 MHz. The reason is the soft pots on the Astro Spectra do not work below 450.
