Changing UHF Range on ASTRO SPECTRA 110W

Post by ssybert »

Hello everyone,

I've got an Astro Spectra 110w. It's currently a 474-5xx split radio. I'd like to move it down to 403-470 (I think this is the split... It's got to cover 460's and preferably ham). I think I need to replace the front end and VCO? I was trying to piece together what needs to be done from other posts referring to the regular split spectra.. That was what I came up with.

Any help, prices, places to get parts, etc would be appreciated.

Thanks, Scott.

I've never tried changing the band on an Astro Spectra... But I do know that you will not be able to get it to do 403-470. The Astro Spectras still have the same band splits as the analog spectras, so you'll have to settle for 438-470 or 450-482.

Even the Astro Spectra Plus still has the small bandsplits. It looks like the XTL5000 finally does 380-470.

I'd imagine you would probably have to replace all the RF boards. Then get a codeplug for the proper split in there somehow...

Hopefully someone that has done this before can give you more details.

Well, trying to find someone to swap this T Band drawer for a drawe I can use is next to impossible. I think we'd just buy the right drawer but those are no where to be found either. :x

Band split change on a AS

Post by Microwave Mike »

I have converted a Astro Spectra from a lo split, 403-430, to a 450-470.
I took a regular Spectra and removed the Rx front end, VCO, And PA. I then placed those in the , former, lo split radio. I had an extra Vocom for the 450-470 split. I replaced the lo split Vocom with the new one. All worked fine.
I would find a 110 watt Spectra and strip out the the three RF boards and replace the high split boards. As to the Vocom, Either find a replacement or jam in a 450-470 personallity.
