You can bit bang the model number to anything you want! But if you want a true Smartzone Spectra, you have to buy one. E7's use a completely different command board that has an integrated MLM. You cannot upgrade the traditional MLM to do Smartzone. But I believe Motorola did make a Smartzone retrofit upgrade kit that consisted of a brand new command board.

Uses what is called a Spectra II command board. It is a flashable board,

they are right ROF. i just aquired 2 e7 and one e9. the command board is much larger than a reg board and there is no mlm. the plugs on the small coax on the rf board is also differant. every thing else seems to be the same. the spectra rss works just fine jim
