I have a MTS2000 that I want to use with a ear phone so I can monitor while in meetings and such without disturbing everyone in the room.
I purchased a external audio adapter from ebay but whenever I plug a standard ear phone into the adapter I get a constant tone through the ear piece except when it receives radio transmissions. The plug for the ear phone fits loosely in the jack and if I move it around it the radio transmits.
My question is, do I need a ear phone made by motorola or do I have a bad adapter.

You need a special earphone to use with the Jedi audio adaptor. If not it keys the transmitter or sets a constant tone.
You could cut the center conductor on the cord to the earphone and add a 10uf capacitor with the "+" side twards the radio connector/plug's tip.
Also the 3.5mm threaded plug on the earphone must be a three conductor and the earphone hooks to the "tip" and ground, no connection the the other "ring" contact.
