Syntor X9000 Help Please

Post by Dougdeutsch »

Hi,

A while back I purchased a Syntor X9000 VHF 110 watts mobile with the siren package from a fellow here on Batlabs.

I finally got around to playing with the radio and have a problem.

The programming of the radio went without a hitch. It receives great BUT I have no output power when the mic is keyed. The needle on my Bird doesn't even flicker.

Is there some parameter within the programming that would disable the transmitter? or am I missing something else??

I am at a loss since I don't have a service manual to review.

If you have any thoughts how I can get this radio to transmit please contact me at my email address,"[email protected]".

Thanks in advance,

Doug

There are a number of possibilities. First and foremost, check that you have good power on your heavy red lead AND a good solid ground on the black one.

Next, pop the lid of the radio drawer itself, and keep an eye on a little red LED mounted near the front center of the RF board (left side).

If it lights up when you key the mike, the radio's synthesizer is going unlocked on transmit. This could be due to anything from an actual synth fault to the simple answer of your chosen transmit frequency being too far out of the VCO's range to get a lock.

I hope you have, or have access to, a service monitor. You should check your radio against it to see if you're putting out any power at all (even milliwatts), or if the TX side is completely dead.

That's about as far as I can go without actually having the radio in front of me. Good luck.

My memory is a little fuzzy but the control head line has a orange and green wire that has to be tied to +12 volts. One of these is the control head power, the other is a ignition sense line that prevents TX when the ignition switch isn't on (when wired up correctly). On the bench, I just tied both lines to +12 volts, no problem. Just be sure you have ample current capability to transmit at full power, this radio will pull 25-30 amps for full power.

Programming wise, you can program a mode to be RX only and I think busy channel lock out as well. If this is so, open squelch will prevent TX. Also, check the TX frequencies and make sure you have them in the right place. You can put TX in 2 locations, this is to facilitate talkaround when on a repeater frequency, think it is labeled alternate TX or some such...been awhile since I have programmed X9000. Others will probably reply to this post with correct answers... :D I can't even boot the Compaq 386/12 laptop I have my X9000 RSS on to help you..sorry! Technology has almost won!

Green is power and orange is ignition sense.

There is no busy channel lock on the X9k. There is Ignition Sense for Transmitter programming that can shut down all Tx activity if it is not programmed correctly. There is also a PTT Allowed setting that can be turned on or off in each mode.
