XTS 2500/XTS 5000

Post by GaInvestigations »

I need some clarification between the 2500 and the 5000 model.

I'm told that the one big difference is the 5000 will accomodate the remote mike where the 2500 will not.

Do both radios come with "smartzone" in them?

Also, what about the 3000 and the 3500.........are they compatible with the smartzone system?

Motorola radios do not 'come' with Smartzone.

These radios are ordered with the particular feature set the purchaser requires. Features are identified by a code that is used when ordering, either when the radio is purchased or when the feature is to be added later in the field. The features can be installed into the radios 'flash' memory, hence these codes are called flashcodes.

Each feature set adds to the price of the basic radio. The lowest cost feature set is the H35 conventional operation. Higher feature sets are Smartnet/Smarzone, Omnilink, and Astro25. Each higher feature set includes the capabilities of the lower sets.

As far as the XTS2500 vs. the XTS5000, there are several major differences. Properly flashed XTS5000 radios are capable of being programmed to operate on both 3600 baud and 9600 baud systems with both types in the same radio at the same time so you can switch back and forth.

Properly flashed XTS2500 radios can be programmed for either type but not both at the same time. This can be a big issue for interoperability with surrounding systems.

Also, XTS2500 radios are not secure capable [at this time]

The xts2500 will not support the Public Safety Speaker Mic (w/antenna) nor does it support encryption at this time. There is talk that it will support both in the future as Public Safety is advising Moto. that it wants a direct replacement for the MTS 2000 that is being discontinued at the end of this year.

I'll be at Florida MTUG this Wed. so hopefully I will have more info. at the conclusion of the meeting.

The XTS3500 does not have a Flash option for trunking (which includes SmartZone).
