Problem with HHCH and HLN6092 Y cable

Post by ssybert »

Hello everyone,

I purchased a HHCH for my W7 radio, got a little help on the model # hacking, picked up the front interface board required for an A3  and viola... the radio's now an A3. Worked great but the HHCH was directly connected to the radio. This wasn't going to work so I found someone selling a HLN6092 Y-Cable and bought it. After I installed everything, the radio wouldn't work. I tried powering the 15pin accessory connector hanging off the HHCH side of the y cable, didn't help, I even tried simultanously adding power to the 15 pin connector on the radio. Still nothing. Then I tried to move the control cable from the port labeled CONTROL CABLE to the other one... Shouldn't be a big deal, right? Work fine on othe spectras... Well, apparently not in this configuration. Seems when you do that things start smoking inside the Spectra.Took everything apart and plugged the head back into the radio DIRECTLY with the 15pin accessory connector in the back of the radio powered up and everything worked fine. Anyone have any idea why this isn't working? Seems to be something wrong with this cable or my Y - accessory configuration. I can't figure it out... seems straight foward to me but apprently isn't.

Thanks all,

Scott.

Has anyone tried that same cable on a AVA with HHCH? There must be some way for that damn thing to work!

The brand-new W3 cable I see at the shop has the following numbers:

HKN6896B on the part that plugs into the HHCH
HKN6096B on the part that is used as the ignition/speaker, labelled as
a "power cable".

The "power cable" is the "Y" part. Both of the cable ends go to one DB25-looking plug that goes to the radio.

Hope this helps.

That the cable I have. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

When powering the DB15 "power" part of the Y, should I assume the same pinout for the back of the spectra and configure accordingply?

Man... I feel as though I've been blacklisted or something.

C'mon guys... nobody has ANY experience with the W3 setup? Do I even have the right cabling? Someone's got to be able to tell me how to properly WIRE it?!!?

HHCH Cable

There is a DB25 that goes to the transceiver and on the other end you have a DB25 and a DB15
The DB15 goes to your accessory connector for your speaker out and the red wire goes to your IGN sense.
The other DB25 goes to the HHCH.
