Post by mike m »

Is it true that AES is not available in smartnet but only in smartzone trunking ? I just received some info from motorola that says so.

Ah, but that wouldn't stop Motorola from only making AES available on higher end SmartZone trunking radios. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they were to do this in an attempt to phase out SmartNet in favour of SmartZone.

"So, you want the kick-ass AES encryption? Oh, well you'll have to kick in an extra $1000 for this extra special SmartZone capable radio to have it....Oh, you don't need any kind of trunking? That's ok, the radio will do everything else too, and you'll be 'prepared' for the future when (not 'if') you will require SmartZone trunking....um, no there's no discount available if you don't actually need the trunking right now...."

It's true I received an e-mail from the Eng. lab at Mot and they state it's not available in smartnet only smartzone. Go figure, probably planning on selling smartzone radios only.
