Just thought I would post this up as info..
Anyways.... Me and my friend Mr.FLASHPORT tried out the modules...
1 with DES-XL and the other with the DES-OFB Module... in to the AS3
Both radio had the XL turned off and loaded same key.... running in IMBE... RESULTS......
They will talk each other, at only ONE Exception........
The Radio that has the DES-XL will have to Key up first, so the other radio with the OFB can see the signal, once it sees its its TX only DES, the radio with DES-OFB then Reverts to reagular DES..... but has a 1 sec delay of garble, before it reconizes it and then switches over and decodes it perfeclty
Now if you were to TX with the DES-OFB first... the other radio with DES will not decode... all you will hear is garble.. cause its sending DES-OFB instead of straight DES
Oh btw, I forgot to mention, when the DES keys to the OFB, once it reconizes it, it has about 3000msec I think which converts too, I have no idea, 5 sec? lol , before it reverts bak to DES-OFB again, which will result in having the astro with DES keying up first again so the AS3 with OFB can TX with Straight DES.... unless you change the timing, not sure what the farthest you can put, havent checked yet....
Conclusion..... it works ok, if your tight on money and dont wanna get another same module as the other person,
Speaking of that have an extra DES-OFB Module, anybody wants to trade for a DES-Xl???? hehehe
I never said my writing is good... so hopefully u guys can make out what am saying.

I'm surprised it didn't work for you. We have several DES/DES-XL/DES-OFB in use with just DES/DES-XL.
You NEED to force the OFB (and XL only) module to DES-XL by turning it ON, not off. You can even go a step further and turn it on, on a per channel basis.
That way, the OFB doesn't default to OFB when it transmits. It will know to TX DES-XL. It will also know to receive that instead of "searching" like you're experiencing now.
It works well here...
