CPS 2.0 OR RSS 8.5

Hello all. A friend of mine who works at the county radio shop found a cd rom in the trash that said CPS 2.0.ASTRO SABER/XTS3000. Is this better than RSS 8.5 that my other friend has been using to program my radios with? There have never been any problems with 8.5. My radios are late model XTS3K'S from NICK. Any info would be appreciated. thanks GARY N4KVE

The CPS is only "better" if you want to use a faster Windows computer to do your programming, or if you need to do a lot of "cloning" of information between unlike models (drag & drop). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There's nothing "wrong" with the DOS 8.5 version, I would recommend you keep using it as long as you wish.

If you use CPS you will not be able to go back to your Dos .85 as it will be too old. The Dos for that CPS will be .94. You should keep a Dos file of your radio. With that, you could keep using Dos. Or you may just want to break from it and keep CPS. It does work faster.

I believe RSS 9.5 is the last released DOS verion, and it will work with CPS 1&2. Personally, I hate CPS. The RSS seems to have a certain "flow" to it. Actually, I have the ASTRO RSS and CPS. The plain old Spectra RSS was nice. Every option for each personailty was within that one channel. Going back to assign zones/channels/scan etc etc is annoying. I think at least.

The higher the tier radio the more complicated the software. I prefer the "keep it simple stupid" method. One less thing to go wrong the better.

I like the CPS for the drag and drop feature..... but probably because most of us have dealt with RSS for so long it's hard to break the habit of the constant F4... change feature... F4...etc...

I remember when the first Motorola Windows software came out that I saw...the MTR2000. At first it was like...WTF is going on...I miss my F4, F3, F8 stuff. But, once I was used to it, not so bad. I just wish they would stick to a similar format for all their Windows stuff. Everything seems to be different....Astro/MTS/MCS works one way, M1225 works another, MTR2000 different again, CP200 series & HT/CDM different again...it can get confusing after awhile.

Drag and drop in the latest CPS works great, easy to program different radio models quickly.

Also if you stay at CPS 2.0 you will miss out on new features added with the new CPS and firmware. For most people this isn't a problem but some may want the new features.

just curious, does that CD say anythign about being useful for a spectra? I've never used the Astro CPS but I know the good ple RSS is the same for a XTS3000 and a spectra

Two seperate CD's. One for Astro Spectra and one for Astro Saber / XTS3000.

The DOS also had 2 programs, ASTROM and ASTROP, but both were on the same install disk.
