Someone told me you MUST "NOT" have the front panel speaker and the ext. speaker in use at the same time for some reason. Can anyone tell me why? This is a 32ch 16pin VHF just for referance.I will be using an aftermarket speaker that has its own power supply. It looks like i will use pins 1 and 16.
SORRY LEFT OUT A WORD last night sorry for the confusion.

That somebody really doesn't know what he's talking about. As far as Motorola's concerned, the speakers are used exclusive of one another, not together. I've seen it done, but there's a good possibility of blowing the audio power amplifier if both are hooked at the same time & the volume is cranked.

Connecting the speakers in series as you stated will cause clipping in the audio power amp, too high an impeadance for the amp. If you must run both speakers, hook the external speaker from 1 and 16 and add a four ohm five watt resistor from 15 to 16 for the internal speaker so it will not over load.
The later radios with the push-pull audio PA can drive a two ohm external speaker by it self or a four ohm external plus the internal speaker with the added four ohm resistor (pin 15 - 16).
VERY IMPORTANT DO NOT CONNECT either pin 1, 15, or 16, to ANY ground or thru anything to ground, you WILL blow-up the audio PA.
