What radios do you own?: APX4K, XTL5K, NX5200, NX700HK

I've been told that programming a 450-470Mhz GP300 to frequencies at 423Mhz would not work. Or at least not well.

I proved that wrong for myself.

For some reason, when I programmed my GP300 out of band in this fashion, it actually worked, and fairly well (I can RX/TX a 118WERP repeater from about 5-10miles with HT).

I guess I thought (and this prevented me from trying this before) that the radio would perform about as well as an MT500 radio tuned for 151, but crystalled at 160MHz, which is not at all.

By programming my radio to the one repeater pair at 428/423- and still keeping the rest in the 450-470 range, I saved money by nothaving to purchase another HT.

Although I'm sure it is not performing as well as the 403-433Mhz model, it works great for me- especially when the repeater is located about a mile or two from me.
