i have an MTX-810 with a weird intermitant problem. sometimes it will prog, tx and make the proper noises (not prog on channel honk etc.) just fine. sometimes the alert tones will cut out and it will not tx or give any indication of being on. the battery is good and the power is good as far as i can trace it. is this situation specificly familar to anyone?
(sorry, i realise over the board radio diagnosis is usually not cooth, but i was wondering if somebody had run into this specific problem)

Does it make any rattling noises when you shake it? One (or more) of the 4 screws holding the controller board in place may have come loose and is shorting things out, very common problem. If all seems tight, check out the 5 volt regulator transistor (difficult to explain where it is unless you have a manual, but it's one of only two on the board with "BBS" marked on it), somewhat close to the center of the board. I've also seen one leg of the microprocessor clock crystal come loose & cause similar troubles. Of course, check out your power/volume control, & ribbon flex cable. Many times a break can be found there as well. Good luck with it,

Todd
