Re: Crystals neede for MT 500
The MT500 VHF and UHF radios use channel elements which require compensation and aging after a new crystal is installed.Bikemedic wrote:Needed a place to buy or trade RX/TX crystals for Mot MT500s 155.715

I would recommend sending your existing elements to International Crystal in Oklahoma City. Probably run between $40-$50 per element to get them redone with a nice warranty.
Happy hunting.

Yep, last time I called, ICM charges $50 per element to recrystal and tune your element.
Remember, that's two elements per channel. You could pick up a P200 for that or even less than that same $100.
Exception: the low band MT500 uses crystals without elements.
But of course that does not apply to this case.

MT500 elements...
I am an MT500 nut myself, and I must have 45 of the damned things in the basement, most of which work as well as the day they were made. However, these days if I needed a single-channel, reliable, setup I'd opt for a used Saber I which probably can be picked up for about $100.
If you're good at small work, you CAN change the crystals in the MT500 elements yourself for somewhat less money per unit.

I have a Lo-band MT500 single channel that does have the ICOM. Just my luck, on the same channel as my DPW.
Yes some dept.s still use lo-band here in Michigan.
