XTS 3k Model III to Model II

Can a model III XTS 3k be re-cased as a Model II?

Yes, you would need to put in a Model II coleplug though.

Why? He wouldn't be able to access the keypad and thus features like 'unlimited' phone & call alert, but it certainly wouldn't require a Model II codeplug to be forced in.

I was thinking along the lines that the radio just wouldn't see the other buttons and you wouldn't be able to access them. If a II codel plug has to be forced into the radio would the model # of the radio also have to be changed?
