XTS5000 & 3000 question

Question for you guys.

I have a Model 1 XTS3000.

Can I put this on it:

It's an XTS5000 Model 1 face. I think I read somewhere it'd work, but I'm not sure.

Why? Well, I really want the yellow case. I use my radio all the time hiking and such through forrested areas (camping and what not)...I've already almost lost it once, so the yellow would REALLY help with that.

It will not work. Connectors to the vocon board are different.

Damnit.

How much effort/work would it take to remove the guts from my case and put it in the 5000 case so that it would work? I'm familiar with doing so on the Jedi series, which is to say..a piece of cake, but I don't really know much about an XTS (barely enough about how to open it...heh)

I don't mind abit of work, as I REALLY don't want to loose this radio - almost had it happen twice so far...a black radio is really hard to find at night! And before someone suggests it, no I'm not going to get reflective stickers and put it on the black case...already did that on another radio and it looked gawd awful.

I know it won't work "as is"...surely it can't be impossible to take out the electronics from the 5000 housing and put the ones from my 3000 housing into it.

Failing that - anyone know where I can get an XTS3000 Model 1R housing, in yellow? Model 2 would be even better

I believe some of the avctual size is different also

Buy the 3000 yellow housing. U can get it without the speaker and mic rather cheap. Don;t know the part # though

A bit o/t here but did you say you have put the guts from a jedi into a XTS3/5k housing?

interesting project- does it actually fit without major surgery?

No..

What I meant was this...

I'd take the guts (speaker, flex cable, volume knob, etc...) from the XTS5000 case out. Then I'd replace it with the stuff from my XTS3000. I didn't mean replacing the entire radio, just what's on the faceplate (Concentric Switch, Channel Knob, Volume Knob, ABC Switch, Emergency Button, Side Buttons and PTT).

It'd be cool if you could put XTS guts into a Jedi case tho, but somehow I don't think it'd work.
