At one time the module exchange was a way to ensure that the local shop could afford to repair products without pricing the assemblies cheap enough to make it practical to build radios. i.e. cheap price for exchange - big price for outright purchase.

Now if you look at their pricing you will see that many items like RF boards cost more to exchange than the entire cost of a depot repair with parts included.

Why that pricing??? Well, it could be that some mini-manager MBA just wants to make obscene profits - OR - it could be that they are trying to make sure that the local shop can't compete with the Motorola depot. Would they do that? Naah.. Somebody might figure it out and sue [but then they DO have all those lawyers for some reason or another]

It's not like it used to be with electronics. Going back in years it was cheaper to replace a defective part than to buy the outright whole new electronic device. Nowadays it's entirely opposite for most electronics. It's cheaper to buy a whole new item than to buy a replacement part and then get it installed/fixed.

I wonder how much money there making in profit on the XTS series of radios. The radio can't cost that much to make for them to jack the price all the way up to what there going for at a local motorola dealer.
