KVL U4 Chip 24C16 ?

Post by Haloncloud »

Does anybody know if there is some kind of image burned on the U4, 24C16 chip for a T3011BX to DX upgrade? Motorola wants around $35 for this chip but I can get one for 2-3 dollars from electronics store.

There's no programming or imaging for the small 8 pin eeprom chip you are describing and you can buy the lower cost equivelent item as a substitute.

What radios do you own?: Motorola, Icom, Sunair (HF).

Are you sure about this? When I did my upgrade, I found that there was indeed information pre-programmed into the 8-pin device (which, BTW, is actually an S-EEPROM, the 'S' meaning 'serial').

Now, perhaps that information was simply old keys from the previous owner, but I'm unsure. I do know that replacing the bigger EPROM chip without replacing the SPROM chip results in a non-functional keyloader.

Yep, I bought some from DigiKey and plugged it right in.
