Invalid Key

Post by clavo »

Loading an AS2 with DES with a DX loader. I always get invalid key. Maybe i'm generating a des-xl key instead of DES? But they should be the same I would think. How do I need to structure my key to make it a valid key?

ummm, just working at the top of my mind but go in to your radio wide option and go to the encryption part, and I think its F5 latter, cant remember, but CRK Management should be disabled. and see if that works,

Oh and be sure the Keys are not indexed either in the RSS

Have to get home to see where the options is....

Thanks for responding.

CRK management is turned off.

In the hardware encryption multikey menu the index box isn't checked either.

Still gets error.

any other ideas?

Yeah. I got one of the same radios from the same place you did.
And the F@##$ thing wont RX a non-astro DES unless it's directly under the tower.
TX is excellent and right on freq however.

IMBE DES seems fine both ways.

I'm still trying to figure out why. I swapped out the 1152 but that wasn't it.

And mine was straight up telling me "illegal key" whatever the hell that means.

What I did to fix this was to just create some new personalities and
then It would take a key and stop complaining. I DID verify that I
actually got a non-XL DES key in there because I checked with 6 other radios.

However the one and only DES enabled freq pre-existing in the radio
would still say "illegal key" if it was powered up on that channel.
BUT- when the channel was changed to the new one I just put in
(DES Non-astro!) and backed up to the previous existing one, it Worked!
(no wrong key message)
SO in short

My theory is the following:
The damn thing doesn't work on analog securenet.
Works ASTRO ONLY.
thats why the one and only existing personality with DES was an ASTRO channel.
And thats why they were sold to the nearest chump.
Probably due to that "barely IMBE old ass firmware"
And since it wouldn't communicate with the other regular old DES
securenet they were useless and never used.

That's my best guess. Prove me wrong.

And for goshs sakes let me know if you get the cotton picking thing working.

Any other ideas on this problem? I spent a half an hour today trying different key combos.... No matter what I fill I get 'invalid key'.

What is the model # of your encryption module?

I have seen this happen before. The user thought he had a DES-XL module in, but the module was a DES-OFB (astro encryption only). Just a thought.

I figured it out.... lets just say it was a stupid mistake :) One of those mistakes that comes after your eyes glaze over from overly long exposure to CPS :)

Thanks for the help.

Radio with DES only has encryption applied to a astro personality. It seems to work find on other analog personalities. Stupid mistake.
