keyloading problems...

Post by wavetar »

I don't do a lot of work with encryption stuff, so I'm no guru. I can't figure this one out. Setting up a new customer with multi-key capable XTS5000 & Astro Spectra radios. I program the key into the KVL3000+, and it'll load up radios just fine. Once the KVL is powered off & back on again, 90% of the time it won't keyload...constant 'keyload fail' messages. Everything appears to still be in there. If I format the keyloader & re-enter the key, 90% of the time it'll then work just fine...although occassionally I have to do it twice. Anybody run across this? It's freakin' annoying.

I'm not a guru either. Make sure FIPS is not enabled. This will erase keys if battery power is lost. Are you entering the correct location of the keys? The kvl stores hundereds of keys. When you turn it on, make sure the key location is there or entered.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips. FIPS is not enabled, the key remains in the unit. I am only loading a single key, in slot 0000. Like I said, it loads fine, then suddenly stops, usually after a power off/on, but not always. A format & reload usually works, but not always. A few others have contacted me with similar issues, so I guess I'm not alone. At least one rev of firmware is known to be buggy, but I haven't confirmed whether it's that or not.

Here is my latest stuff on them........
Seems I'm always the first to notice these 'glitches'.

===============================================

SRN S-12042002B (hardware related)

Symptom:

This is an intermittent problem, in which the KVL 3000 Plus will not power up after the power button is pressed. If the unit is left untouched, it will power up several minutes later.

SRN S-0123 (bad firmware is R03.52.22)
(Hit Shift + C to check your version or see it on turn-on)

Symptom:

The KVL 3000 Plus intermittently fails to load the key into the target device in the ASN mode. Powering off and powering on the KVL 3000 Plus may fix the intermittent failure to load the key. Attempts to upgrade target devices (e.g. KMF CC, MGEG CC, Subscriber unit, etc.) using a KVL 3000 Plus with software version R3.52.22 will also fail.

Oh ya...............

Firmware R03.52.07 was also 'buggy'!

Definitely a love hate relationship with these units!
