The TK-280/380 radios has a feature called minimum volume setting, sounds like someone has programmed this function to max level........

Minimum volume is for 780/880 mobiles. Sounds to me like you lost the ground to your volume pot. Check pot and connections.

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

It's done from the test menu. Also can be done from the front if it's programmed to go into test mode. 1 for wide, and 1 for NB.
PM me directly with your email address, I can send you a copy of the service info.

OK, the SQL level is set from the test menu.

For the min volume, Open the KPG-49D, read your radio, or open your data file. Under the “EDIT” pull down menu select, and open “OPTIONAL FEATURES”, then in the lower right of the screen you will see “TONE FEATURE”, open that, and set the “MINIMUM VOLUME” to 0, or off. Reprogram the radio, and you are set.
