mts2000 mod III programming question.
my MTS2k only sees the first channel in each zone. even if ch sel is on ch 5 it tx/rx's on channel 1's mode info. each zone is the same way. and it only RX's in scan mode for the first channel in the zone.
Any one have any ideas?

zone A has 14 modes in it. only mode 1 worked. all other modes used mode 1's info.
basically
mode 1 = pcsar 4X4's
mode 2 = State sar
etc..
If you sel mode 2 it tx/rx mode 1 not mode 2
I reproged it for 1 mode per zone (14 zones w/ 1 mode) change zones and sel mode one and it tx/rx's the correct mode.
zone 2 / mode 1 tx/rx STATE SAR like it should.
it's like it can't see modes 2-16 on each zone even though it will display the mode name for ea channel selection by the knob. It just won't use it's mode info. it only uses mode 1's info.
does this make sense to you?

This is another stupid idea, but...
Are you sure that you haven't assigned the same personality to all of the zone / channel postions and just named it something different in each position?
If it is doing what you say, I've never seen it. Would you be willing to send me the codeplug for a try?

Now you have me thinking, this radio is an MTS2000 hacked to 255 modes, was it flashed for 255?
Secondly, if you delete all zones but one (make sure you save codeplug before doing this), can you assign modes and use them if confined to 1 zone?
Not a problem I have ever seen before, not to say it can't happen. How many modes total exist in the radio now? How many zones total?

That is a unique problem that I haven't seen. I take it that you received the radio in this condition?
It still sounds like something is wrong with the way that the personalities are getting assigned to the zone/channel position. Remeber that the name and the personality info (freq., pl, etc.) are programmed independently, so the radio is getting the name, zone and channel assignment right, but it is goofing up the personality.
I guess it could be a RSS problem, but I don't know enough about how the RSS stuffs the information into the radio.

When I got it had one mode & one zone. I programmed 14 personalities in it and mode one/zone one is the only one that worked.
Then I programmed 14 zones with one mode in each (mode1/zone 1, moe2/zone 2, mode 3 zone 3, etc.) mode3/zone 3 works on mode 3 like it should, but mode 3 /zone 1 still uses mode 1's personality, except that it reads out mode 3's name on the display.

I just sent your codeplug back. It should work fine, I think. I found that in the zone/channel assignment (F8), all of the channels were set to personality number 1, which would explain the problem.
It's kinda goofy, I guess. If you get a chance to use the CPS for the Pro series, you will find that they (big M) combined the alpha display name with the personality data (thank you!), which eliminates this type of confusion. I guess there are reasons for wanting to name a personality something different in a different zone/channel assignment in the same radio, but I haven't ever come across any good ones.
Let me know if it works.

ok got it. that was the problem.
under "personality" you have type and number. under number i had left it as "1". changing these to 2, 3, 4, etc has the radio working like it should off the "CH sel" knob now.
I don't know why I didn't see that to begin with. I programmed my MOD1 mts2k the same as this one and it worked properly the first time.

A lot of areas use the same freq for different users. like in San Luis Obispo County, Ca, the Sheriff's POSSE uses the same freq as Olympia, WA Police. I live in WA just north of Olympia and my parents are SLO CO Posse. So in one zone that freq is OLY PD F2 and in another zone the same freq is SLOSD POSSE. this explains the option of assigning a different name to the same mode in a different zone. Though, I had not thought to do that untill you said something in the last post you made, THANKS for that idea!!!
