Memory units for a Syntor X radio
I just got 2 Syntor X radios in and They have no memory modules. Are these avaiable at all any more and were can I find them?

I don't think Ma /\/\ supports the Syntor X anymore. You may find some of the modules on Ebay, but I wouldn't count on it. A better bet may be to post a want ad in the Batboard For Sale/Wanted/Trade forum. Then again, you may get lucky and the local MSS may have a few used or new/old stock units in stock.

syntor x radios usually use a seeq 2816 eeprom inside the module, if you find a eeprom carrier, you can find a 2816 eeprom to put in it, and i see there is a universal programmer on ebay right now that will program those, if you do a search for motorola syntor x you will see it.
think about how to ENCOURAGE Motorola learning safely with GRACE.....NOT condemnation.

While we are on the subject of Syntor X memory modules, has anyone ever tried to build an adapter to plug one into a standard PROM burner? I got tired of having to remove the EPROM from the socket in the module, so I tried to build such an adapter, but it won't let me write to the module. I can read it just fine, but not write to it. I've double checked my connections, and everything seems to be correct, but they have two pins, both related to the writing process somehow, I don't currently remember the "name" of the pins, tied together somehow inside the module. Do I maybe need to add a switch to "put it in program mode", or something?

http://www.piexx.com has a Syntor X prom replacement that is PC programmable and comes with the software. Not to be confused with the computer control conversion they sell, this is different: a direct PROM repleacement. Worth a look.

Dunno. You're probably on the right track. Never could get my Shooter to program the 2816 chips no matter how hard I wished. Cowthief, what the hell does that have to do with anything? I am looking for info on the Syntor X, not the Syntor. Interesting webpage, but has nothing to do with the current discussion.

Yes, the syntor and syntor X are each to its own.
When I got a syntor X I had the same trouble with writing to the EPROMs.
The webpage in question explained what I was doing wrong.
The chips are loaded with whatever firmware, yes, but the chips (conversion) are the same.

Pay attention, Cowthief. I am haveing problems trying to use an adapter to connect the memory module to the PROM burner without having to remove the EPROM from the module. I can program it just fine by putting the chip directly into the PROM burner.

You said this in the first post.
Yes, the trouble I had was first with the syntor.
I was able to solve the same trouble with the syntor X.
If you look carefully, you will also find that you can bank select thinks like the xx64 and xx256 chips in things like the syntor and syntor X.
The maximum number of channels a syntor X can do is 256.
This is with a bank switching mod or the piexx mods
Again, the fix is the same for both the syntor AND the syntor X.
Motorola also used this address scheme in the cellular telephones right up to the EE2 series.
It was not uncommon to have a bag phone with 255 ESNs in that era.
And, all the trouble is in the write cycle, read is easy.
This is due to how Motorola does the write cycle.
There are checks in place to help prevent a bad write.
With that I am done on this subject.
